John Fisher has been bringing life out of marble for over forty years, one unique piece at a time. John and his wife, Sandy Oppenheimer, a collagist, spent over twenty years living and working in the village of Pietrasenta, Italy, where the finest statuary marble comes from centuries old quarries that produced the marble used by Michaelangelo. The picture above shows some of the monumental pieces he carved during this period. Some of these pieces were commissions, some were sold in Italy, and others in the United States where John and Sandy returned to over a decade ago. Other of these works are still available in their studio in Fort Bragg. CA, just north of Mendocino. Visitors to this area are often surprised and delighted when they find their way to the Fisher Oppenheimer Studio in Fort Bragg.
